FEDERG participation at ERA Congress 2023

Susana Carvajal Arjona
18 June 2023
Rare Disease

Date:               15-18 June 2023
Venue:            MICO, Milan
Attendees:      Tess Harris (President, FEDERG) and Susana Carvajal (Secretary of FEDERG)

Tess Harris, FEDERG President, and Susanna Carvajal (FEDERG Secretary) represented FEDERG at the 60th European Renal Association Congress in Milan from 15 to 18 June 2023. The European Renal Association or ERA is one of the biggest nephrology associations worldwide. Its aim is to reduce the burden of chronic kidney disease by supporting basic and clinical research in the fields of nephrology, dialysis and renal transplantation.

The location of the booth was ideal. Everyone entering the Congress Centre had to pass the booth to reach the seminars and the main exhibition area. They were thus able to greet doctors and scientists that they knew and make connections with many new doctors and scientists from the 123 countries attending.

Overall, 9361 participants registered for ERA 2023 with the top countries being Italy, the UK and Spain.

ERA also provided free of charge delegate passes to Tess and Susana. During the four days, they had the opportunity to attend first class educational sessions relevant to rare and genetic kidney diseases and other aspects of CKD. ERA had provided this booth space free of charge and it was shared with PKD International, the global alliance of polycystic kidney disease patient groups, of which Tess Harris is President, and the local PKD Italy group. The booth was next to the European Kidney Patients Federation and ERKNet booths.

Tess was a guest speaker at ERA this year and gave a talk on ‘Patient Involvement in Guidelines’ using the EURORDIS ‘Guide for Patient Involvement in the Development of Clinical Practice Guidelines & Clinical Decision Support Tools’ as an example of best practice.

Juan Carlos (EKPF), Daniel Gallego (EKPF), Tess Harris (FEDERG), Flavia Galletti (PKD International), Susana Carvajal (FEDERG), Luisa Sternfeld Pavia (PKD Italy)
